A strong resume gives potential employers a concise, clear picture of your skills and experience. And, it’s the crucial first step in securing an interview, and posibly a future position.

However there are some words and phrases that one should not use, these can turn potential employers and your resumes could end up in the not interested stack.

‘Assist,’ ‘Contribute’ and ‘Support’

Words like “assist,” “contribute” and “support” all say (or don’t say) the same thing. They say you helped, but they don’t say how.

‘Successfully’

Your achievements will be more impressive if you give concrete examples of what you’ve done and how you’re been successful.

‘Responsible For’

The phrase “responsible for” can make your resume feel like a grocery list. Instead of just listing your responsibilities, stress your accomplishments.

‘Interface’ or Other Buzzwords

Using these words makes it seem like your trying to sound intelligent or qualified, you may end up annoying or confusing your potential employer. You don’t want the employer to have for detail about your duties at you previous jobs.

State what you mean plainly and keep it simple. Using these alturnatives For example, instead of “interface,” say “work.” Instead of “impact,” say “affect.” Instead of “utilize,” say “use.”

A strong resume can lead to a career instead of just a job.
